Ubigi
Ubigi was launched back in 2018 by Transatel, a mobile network services company based in Paris, France. In 2019, Transatel became part of the NTT group, a global telecomms group based out of Tokyo, Japan. Ubigi claims they are: “Enabling private and business travelers to enjoy a safe, stress free, and memorable trip thanks to seamless and innovative connectivity experiences, wherever they are in the world.”
Though it’s inconsistent depending on country, we’re fans of Ubigi. As you can see from our Ubigi review, we have been impressed with the value for money, speed and signal from some packages, but do think that there’s room for improvement overall.
“Ubigi can offer it all. In some locations you’ll get great value with fast speeds and solid signal. In others, you can find overpriced plans, average signal and poor speeds. The quality of service received really comes down to which country you’re heading to. Fortunately the service is good more often than it’s bad.”

Our opinion: Ubigi wins a close match-up
This one is very tight! When considering final review scores for travel eSIMs, the above factors are what we take into consideration. However, not all factors are created equal. Our top three are always:
- Signal.
- Speed.
- Price and value.
These are the three factors that will generally define your experience more than the others.
- Signal is generally good on both eSIMs.
- Speeds on Ubigi can be great (European countries) or underwhelming (UK). They’re inconsistent but generally faster than AloSIM’s.
- Ubigi can offer very strong value packages, especially in Europe, the US and some Asian countries. South America, not so much. When you consider these factors, we would say that Ubigi is a little ahead of AloSIM. However…
AloSIM scores strongly in the secondary factors. We think that their app is much better than Ubigi’s thanks to a clean interface, full working functionality and all the details you could require. They also have a loyalty scheme which, while not as good as Airalo’s, is consistent with the market overall. Ubigi doesn’t have one. We also love the phone number with internet calls and SMS for free for new plans, it’s genuinely the best perk that we’ve seen so far.
As we mentioned this one is close as both eSIM providers have their own strengths and weaknesses. Rather than sit on the fence, if we had to choose, we’d probably lean towards Ubigi thanks to some of the great value packages available in some countries, especially in Europe, USA and some Asian countries.
