Our Saily verdict

Saily is a strong all around option for travelers who want an eSIM that feels simple and effective from the start. The app guides you through buying, installing and managing a plan, while live chat support is available if something goes wrong.

Performance has generally been strong during our testing, although results have varied considerably by country and local network. Some destinations delivered excellent 5G speeds, while others were much more ordinary.

Saily’s included security tools also give it something genuinely different. They’re useful extras, although the plan price, data allowance and local network should still guide your decision.

Saily testing across 17 Countries

We’ve personally tested Saily in 17 Countries: Belgium, China, Colombia, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States.

That gives us evidence from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America and South America, covering both 4G and 5G partner networks. These are four results that show the range we experienced:

• United Kingdom: 649 Mbps on EE 5G in London, our fastest Saily result.
• France: 562 Mbps on Orange 5G in Lille, with an upload speed of 120 Mbps.
• Taiwan: 449 Mbps on Chunghwa Telecom 5G in Taipei during our latest test.
• Hong Kong: 46 Mbps on 1GLOBAL 4G in Tsim Sha Tsui, which was slow compared with most other eSIMs we tested there.

These results show why we don’t judge Saily from one exceptional speed test. The local network, plan, device, location and congestion can all change the experience.

The best Saily plan depends on where you’re going, how much data you’ll use and how often you travel.

What makes Saily different

Included security tools

Saily includes an ad blocker, web protection and virtual location feature with its eSIM plans. These can reduce some ads, block malicious sites, limit trackers and reroute your connection through a selected country.

They’re helpful extras, but they can’t compensate for a poor destination plan. Local network quality, data and price will usually have a bigger effect on your trip.

One eSIM for future trips

You can add another destination or data plan to the existing Saily eSIM through the app. This reduces the need to install and label a new eSIM profile every time you travel.

Fast speeds

As we test Saily in more countries, we find that speeds are among the fastest we’ve tested, though that won’t always be the case. Download speeds are a key factor in a positive eSIM experience, so this is something to prioritize.

Calls, texts and hotspot

Standard Saily travel plans are data only. You can still use WhatsApp, FaceTime and other internet based calling apps through your Saily data.

Saily also sells a separate phone number service. It provides a US number for local calls and SMS, but it isn’t a local number for whichever country you’re visiting. International calls aren’t supported and incoming calls also use your purchased minutes.

Hotspot is supported and we’ve used it successfully during our testing, we’re even using it to post this article. Any data shared with another device comes from the same plan allowance.

Installing and activating Saily

Buy and install Saily before your trip while you have dependable Wifi. The data plan should activate when the eSIM connects to a supported network in its coverage area, but Saily also applies a 30 day activation window. If you’re already inside the plan’s coverage area, keep the Saily line switched off until you’re ready to use it because connecting early may activate the plan.

Fixing a Saily connection problem

If Saily doesn’t connect, first check that the plan is active, the eSIM line is switched on, Saily is selected for mobile data and data roaming is enabled for that line. Toggling airplane mode or restarting the phone can also force it to reconnect. If that fails, you may need to try 4G, select a supported network manually or check the APN. Don’t delete the eSIM unless Saily support tells you to.

Can you reuse the same Saily eSIM?

Yes. You can add future destinations and data plans to an existing Saily eSIM through the app. You usually won’t need a new profile for every trip.

Can you keep your normal SIM active with Saily?

Usually, yes. A compatible dual SIM phone can use Saily for data while keeping your normal line available for calls and texts. Your home network may charge roaming fees for activity on that line.
