This is your standard fixed data plan. You pick a data amount (from 100MB to 20GB) with a 30 day validity, which is usually only available for high data plans. A fun fact, in most destinations, they offer a limited data plan for free, which is great if you just need a bit of data to get by or want to test the service before buying. The trade offs are the same as always: the plans expire and the data is locked to the country or region you bought it for.

The hybrid advantage

The really clever part is how Flex and Fix can work together. If you burn through your Fix data, Roamless automatically switches over to your Flex balance (if you have any). In app calling

Roamless has a built in calling feature that lets you make international calls from inside the app. The catch is that it only works with your Flex balance, not your Fix bundles. Rates start at just $0.01 per minute, but you’ll need at least $5 of credit to use it. The upside is that it works over any connection, including Wi Fi.

Roamless customer support: What to expect

Here’s a big area where Roamless could improve. There’s no live support, which is a drawback now that instant help is becoming the norm. We haven’t had connection issues with Roamless itself, but we have faced them with other providers when landing in a new country and the eSIM wouldn’t connect. That’s exactly the kind of situation where quick support is needed and a ticket system just doesn’t provide that level of help.

Support channels and availability

The main way to get help is by sending a message through their ticket system. It works, but it’s not ideal if you’re on the move and need help fast. • The multi country hopper or business traveller: If your trip involves several countries, RoamlessFlex is the safer bet. The credit never expires and it works everywhere without you having to think about it. Yes, it costs more, but you’re paying for convenience.

• The single destination traveller or digital nomad: If you’re settling into one country for a month or more, RoamlessFix is much cheaper. The 30 day limit is the catch, but for predictable travel, it’s much more budget friendly.

• The best of both worlds (Our recommended approach): What worked best for us was combining the two. Buy a RoamlessFix plan for your main destination and keep a little Flex credit loaded in the background.
