eSIM News: Roamless Launches Roamless Numbers

Roamless phone numbers, calls and SMS are finally live
If you’ve been following Roamless for a while, you might remember us mentioning that they were working on something called “Roamless Numbers.” Well, it’s here. The feature is live and it’s a bigger update than we expected.
Up until now, Roamless was already one of our favorite eSIM providers, largely because of its Single Global eSIM concept and fast speeds. However, calling was always limited: you could make outgoing calls through the app, but you couldn’t receive them and there was no SMS at all. This update changes both of those things.
What’s actually new
Roamless Numbers lets you subscribe to a dedicated phone number that lives entirely inside the Roamless app, with no physical SIM or separate eSIM profile required. You subscribe, it activates immediately and you’re good to go.
Numbers are currently available in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, starting at $6.95 per month or $59.45 per year per number, with the option to cancel whenever you want.
How Roamless calling works
There’s more flexibility here than we initially thought. Rather than locking you into one way of calling, Roamless gives you 3 options: use your dedicated Roamless Number, verify your existing personal number and use it as your caller ID for outgoing calls, or make anonymous calls from your credits with no number attached at all. The anonymous option is a nice touch we didn’t see coming.
Incoming calls come through like regular phone calls with system-level notifications, so you don’t need to be inside the app to pick up and you can always see which number is calling before you answer. That last bit is particularly handy if you end up running more than one number.
SMS, including OTPs
SMS works through your Roamless Number for both sending and receiving, or outgoing only through your verified personal number. One practical detail worth calling out: your Roamless Number can receive one-time passwords and verification codes. Anyone who’s ever been locked out of an account while traveling because their home SIM wasn’t active (us!) will know exactly why this matters.
On the pricing side, incoming calls and SMS to your Roamless Number are free, while outgoing calls are charged per minute and SMS rates vary by destination, both shown to you upfront before you dial or send so there are no surprises.
The credits system stays the same
Everything still runs through Roamless Credits, the same wallet you’d already use for data, which means one balance covers data, calls and SMS across 200+ destinations. Credits don’t expire, which has always been one of the things we’ve appreciated about Roamless and you can see exactly what something will cost before you use it, keeping things predictable.
Free calls and messages between Roamless users
If someone you’re contacting also uses Roamless, calls and messages between you are encrypted and completely free, as long as both parties have either a Roamless Number or a verified personal number on their account.
Who is this actually useful for?
From our experience, this won’t be for everyone. For example, if you’re heading away for 2 weeks or so, a data only eSIM will be more than enough.
However, for expats, long-term travellers, or remote workers, this might make more sense. Keeping a home country number active while living overseas for things like banks, government services, or just staying in touch is one of those things that sounds simple but causes a surprising amount of headaches, so having it all sit on one balance in one app is a convenient solution. We currently have to do this with a UK number which costs over £6/$8 per month. Roamless’ solution for the number is cheaper, but our current plan does come with a bit of data and calls if we ever need it.
What we’re watching
The most obvious limitation right now is that Roamless Numbers is only available in 3 countries, so if you need a number outside Australia, Canada or the UK, this won’t work for you (yet). We’ll be keeping an eye on how quickly they expand the list.
We’re also curious about real-world call quality and whether the SMS experience holds up in practice, so we’ll be updating our full Roamless review once we’ve had a chance to test the Numbers feature properly. For now, it’s an interesting step for a provider that’s clearly building toward something more than just another data only eSIM app.
