What Is Roamify?

We’ve been using Roamify for a couple of years now and, while eSIMs are generally far cheaper than roaming, Roamify’s best selling point (of quite a few) is very low pricing. We’ll dig into the specifics as we go through the review, but when you pick a Roamify eSIM, you will very likely get a low cost plan. Is Roamify Compatible With My Phone?

To use Roamify, your phone needs to support eSIM, which most newer phones do. If you’re not sure, the easiest way to check is to look in your cell settings for “Add eSIM” or “Add Mobile Plan” option, or simply check out our eSIM compatibility checker page to confirm things for sure.

Another requirement, your phone also needs to be unlocked, meaning it isn’t locked down to a single network. If it is locked, the eSIM just won’t activate, so make sure. As a rough guide, Roamify works on iPhone XS and later, most Samsung Galaxy S and A series phones from 2020 onwards and Google Pixel 3 and above. In short, if you’ve upgraded in the past 6 years, you should be good to go.

One of the big advantages with eSIMs is how well they work alongside your main SIM. Because most supported devices allow dual SIM, you can keep your regular number active for calls, texts and things like WhatsApp verification, while using Roamify purely for data. In theory that means you can land, switch data over to the eSIM and carry on using your phone normally without removing your primary line. Just be very careful about switching data roaming off on your home SIM and be careful not to make calls, or you might be met with an unwelcome bill.

In terms of setup, Roamify supports both QR code installation and in app activation. We always use in app installation and found the process quick and easy, but it’s worth noting, as with all eSIMs, you will need a stable internet connection during installation.

How To Get Started: Setup and Installation

You can purchase Roamify via their website or via their app. For the sake of this review, we’ll run through what we think is the best way to purchase and manage eSIMs: via apps.

Downloading the App

First step, you’ll want to download the Roamify app from your relevant place. On Apple products, that’s the App Store, on Android based products the Play Store.

Once downloaded, open the app and you’ll land right on to the home screen with multiple feature options and country/region/global plan options right off the bat. You won’t have to log in immediately.

Creating Your Account

Creating an account isn’t necessary for Roamify, you simply need to enter an email. However, we would highly recommend creating one as it makes management of eSIMs so much simpler.

To do so, head to the Account tab in the bottom right, hit Sign in/Sign up and you’ll be presented with the registration and login screen, where you just have a ton of options available to log in, including login via:

• Apple
• Google
• Facebook
• X
• Manual sign up

We always choose sign in with Google at TEE, but choose what works best for you. If you do choose to login via one of your existing 3rd party accounts, this process takes seconds.

Choosing and Buying a Plan

Finding a plan on Roamify really couldn’t be easier. The home screen you land on provides a significant amount of options right in front of you. Plans are split into 3 separate tabs:

• Country
• Region
• Global

Country plans are listed in a seemingly random way, no alphabetical order here. Fortunately there’s a search bar right above to allow you to find the country you require. We’d recommend using that for individual country plans.

The region tab is where the various regional plans live. Again, there doesn’t seem to be any order to the plans offered, so you’ll have to search through manually. One thing to note is that the plan choices could be much clearer as various region plans will have different names, such as “South America” or “Walk the line – South America” and the differences are not defined at all. We’ll jump into the plans later in the review.

In typical Roamify style, payment options are plentiful, we haven’t seen this many payment options for an eSIM before. Here’s the list…

• Credit/debit card
• Apple Pay
• Google Pay
• Paypal
• Alipay
• Coinbase
• Roam Credits

That covers just about every demographic that might be using Roamify. We’ve never bothered to save credit card details on any eSIM app and tend to use Apple Pay to avoid having to re-enter card details and for pure speed, security is great too.

Installation and Activation

Like most eSIM providers these days, Roamify offers installation via QR code, in app direct install or manual install. We generally strongly recommend installing via direct in app install to make things as simple as possible and we’ve never had any issues with Roamify doing things this way. QR codes are fine, but do require another device to scan from most of the time, which is inconvenient. Just don’t bother installing manually if you can avoid it.

The usual installation hints and tips also apply to Roamify. We recommend purchasing and then installing your plan in advance of arriving at your location. This works best because you can use your home Wi-fi connection (you’ll need a stable internet connection), you can simply switch to your Roamify eSIM the moment your plane touches down and, importantly, Roamify plans begin from the moment they connect to a local network. Just ensure you have data roaming switched on for the Roamify plan.

Our Honest Take on the Setup Experience

So what is our overall take? Roamify is generally a smooth setup experience and makes things (mostly) simple thanks to the abundance of payment and login options that you don’t find across all eSIM options. Our only minor hurdle was the slightly confusing naming of regional plans, which we’ll break down below.

What Is the Roamify App Like?

The Roamify app is not the flashiest eSIM app we’ve tested, but it is quick, stable and easy to navigate. To us, that probably matters more than design polish when you’re traveling and just need your data plan to work.

Design and Navigation

The app is very easy to use for the most part. It’s very fast to use, with no issues around bugs or glitches which is super useful when you’re rushing to get online.

The design feel is very grayscale, with not too many splashes of color, which we do usually appreciate. It does also switch to a pure black background in line with your phone’s dark/light mode settings, which is a nice touch. We actually prefer that color scheme here.

Navigation is super easy and logical to us. The app has 4 main tabs:

Home: Here’s where you’ll find a ton of options, but the main use is to find your eSIM plans. They’re split by Country / Region / Global and feature a search bar to find what you need as quickly as possible.

eSIMs: Contains a breakdown of all your current and expired Roamify eSIMs. Here you’ll see the key information such as expiry dates and most importantly, data used. Note: it shows Number 1 / Number 2, Number 1 is data used and Number 2 is the total data available in the plan.

Services: Roamify has a lot of different features and many live in the services tab, including currency conversion, translation and more. The key options here will likely be customer support.

Account: Finally, the account tab offers up information around your login details, orders, T&Cs and more.

The app does have a lot of features which can sometimes make things feel a bit cluttered, but generally we’ve had no issues on the Roamify app.

Standout Features

As we touched upon, Roamify has a lot of features built right in to the app, which overall, we think is a “nice to have” rather than anything essential. They include:

Live Translate: As it says on the tin, a translation feature built in to the app.

This is exactly as Google Translate managed the translation and is almost perfect to a native speaker

Currency conversion: Where you can add a number of different favorite currencies and convert them over. Our problem here is that we just could not get it to work on any of our phones.

Will we use these features? Probably not, we already have dedicated apps for both and generally a few shortcuts to them quickly and easily.

What Does Roamify Include and Where Does It Work?

Coverage Overview

Roamify works in a grand total of 200+ countries, a standard amount compared with the competition and really quite comprehensive. That’s paired up with regional and global plans where there’s plenty of different options to choose from.

In terms of types of plans, Roamify has a number of different options overall.

• Regular fixed plans
• Regional plans
• Unlimited plans
• Calls (Via the internet)
• SMS

Country vs Regional vs Global Plans

1. Country data plans 

If you’re traveling to one country only, this is an easy decision. Here, you’ll be able to purchase plans that will only work in that one single country. The major benefit of single country data plans are that they tend to be the cheapest option available.

2. Regional data plans 

If you’re traveling through multiple countries in the same part of the world, a regional plan lets you stay online throughout without buying a separate plan for each stop. A regional SIM can keep you covered in every country of a continent automatically.

The tradeoff is cost. Regional plans are priced a little higher than single country options, but when you’re visiting a number of countries on one trip, that small extra on top might make sense for convenience.

It’s also worth knowing that Roamify is not a single eSIM profile provider, meaning there’s no way to install one eSIM and add multiple plans onto it over time. For multi country travel, that makes a regional plan the cleaner, minimal hassle choice compared to purchasing and managing a ton of single eSIMs. We used this option when traveling between France and Belgium, because it’s much simpler and the lazy option.

Here’s a breakdown of how Roamify’s regional coverage works:

In truth, some of the regional plans can be a little confusing and it’s not always clear what the difference between some of them are without really digging into the product pages. Just ensure to check the “Network coverage” box to see what countries are supported for each regional plan. Each plan has unlimited data and fixed data options.

3. Global data plans

Global data plans fit a very specific (and dare we say) niche need for those who are regularly traveling to different countries in different parts of the world.

Once again, Roamify offers a number of global plans with different names and minimal explanation as to the differences. Fortunately we’re here to (painstakingly) count everything:

We generally don’t recommend global plans as pricing is always more than regional and country plans and that is also the case with Roamify. As well as that, no eSIM is a top performer in every country.

That being said, if you are looking for the convenience, Roamify’s global plans offer solid pricing and a range of plan options that can suit all needs. How do they compare on price? The standard Global plan comes in much cheaper than major competitors such as Saily, Airalo and more where 5 GB of data is over $30, Roamify’s is $21/22 depending on validity. The Global Premium option is right around the same pricing, it really just depends on what countries you’re heading to.

Calls, SMS and international phone numbers

Roamify is another eSIM provider that also offers calls and SMS with their plans, with exact availability depending on country.

In all countries, calls and SMS plans come alongside data and usually add a premium on top of the price.

Depending on country, plans tend to come with either:

• Unlimited calls and SMS
• 15 minutes of calls and 50 SMS

When you pick a calls plan, the data levels don’t usually match the data only plans like for like, so it can be hard to compare. However, you’ll see from the above 20 GB example in Portugal, you’re looking at an additional $13 for unlimited calls and SMS messages.

The calls option is certainly a “nice to have” and super convenient if it fits your requirements.

Data & Plan Option Flexibility

Roamify offers a range of different options for users that are very flexible in data amounts, but much less flexible for data validity duration.

Data amounts:

Roamify offers a huge range of plans when it comes to data requirements, depending on country. Most countries offer up 15-17 different plans, with around 8 different data points to choose from. The data points go from the industry standard starting point of 1 GB of data, right up to 1 TB, which is rare to see.

That’s before you get to the unlimited data plans, which give you the flexibility to choose an unlimited plan between 1-30 days.

Data validity durations:

One of our small gripes with Roamify is the data validity options. Roamify offers plans valid between 7 days – 30 days, which admittedly is sufficient for most vacations and most users. What we’d like to see is 30 day + plans for users such as Digital Nomads who spend more time overseas in one trip.

That being said, one advantage is that every data point available has multiple validity options, meaning that if you don’t require 30 days validity, you’ll get a slightly cheaper price. That’s something you don’t see with most eSIM providers.

Roamify Speeds and Signal

How We Test

As part of our testing process, we test eSIMs in multiple countries, 5 at a minimum. For Roamify, we’ve tested the eSIM in 14 Countries: Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States.

We test signal through actual usage when actually traveling to and around various different countries, we live on our phones and take notes around performance wherever possible.

Speed tests are how we differentiate performance with raw numbers. We run speed tests using the Speedtest app by Ookla testing:

• Download speed
• Upload speeds

All across every network supported.

We do this across multiple speed tests and assess the two together to get a proper feeling of performance.

Roamify Speed Results by Country

Here are the results of the speed tests we ran for Roamify in each country:

How do they rank in speed test results vs all other eSIMs we’ve tested?

• 1st quickest in Malaysia, out of 29 eSIMs tested.
• 6th quickest in our Belgium eSIM testing, out of 28 eSIMs tested
• 7th quickest in the United States, out of 31 eSIMs tested
• 11th quickest in our United Arab Emirates eSIM guide, out of 16 eSIMs tested
• 11th quickest in France, out of 30 eSIMs tested in our Best France eSIM guide
• 15th quickest in our extensive UK testing, out of 37 eSIMs tested
• 16th quickest in Portugal, out of 31 eSIMs tested

Roamify performed well in our speed tests overall, with a few standout results that put it among the fastest eSIM providers we tested. Its best performance came in a few specific markets where it beat many of the big name eSIMs, showing that it can deliver on speeds.

That said, Roamify was not always the most consistent speed leader across every country. In some destinations, it ranked comfortably in the stronger half of the providers tested, while in others it sat more in the middle of the pack.

Overall, we’d describe Roamify as a fast and competitive eSIM provider, especially in its best performing countries, but not quite the best choice out there if you’re looking for the fastest possible speeds everywhere.

Speed test results are a great way to measure how speeds are in a moment of time, but we do have to stress that they don’t always tell the entire story. We do our absolute best to keep all variables as equal as possible in our speed tests, but speeds will always depend on a number of factors. That includes: signal strength, network stability, network traffic, etc. 

Also, it’s worth mentioning the scale of speeds that exist in different countries, what ranks fastest in Portugal (one of our countries with the top average speeds) and what ranks fastest in Colombia (one of the slower countries we’ve tested) is certainly not the same. That doesn’t impact your core speeds, however.

What These Speeds Actually Mean

In real world use, Roamify’s speeds were more than enough for everyday tasks, we are yet to experience any sort of speed issues with Roamify’s speeds in any of the 14 Countries we’ve successfully tested it in so far. 

In mobile connectivity, there will always be weak signal spots and some issues, but we’ve mostly found Roamify speeds to be reliable and quite quick overall. We’ve generally been able to: 

• Stream on Youtube, mostly in 4K
• Browse internet pages without considerable slowdown 
• Communicate via email, Facetime and WhatsApp messaging, as well as via phone calls
• Navigate via maps

Signal and Network Reliability

While speed tests are important, a fast test result can ultimately be useless without consistent day to day performance. Speed is one of our three top factors in picking an eSIM, another is signal and network reliability.

For the most part, Roamify’s signal is fantastic. It usually works on multiple networks and, in our experience, it usually connects to the networks with the quickest and strongest signal. For example in Belgium, it connects to Orange, in Malaysia it connects to U Mobile, etc. The best part about all of it is that when signal does drop low, it can switch networks and move over to the best performing one – or you can simply do so yourself.

How does it look in the various countries we’ve tested Roamify in?

One important exception was Colombia. We bought a Roamify eSIM for Colombia, but could not get it working, even after speaking to Roamify’s support team. That does not match our experience in the other countries where we successfully tested Roamify, but it is enough for us to be cautious about recommending Roamify for Colombia specifically and more careful with parts of Latin/South America generally.

Roamify Pricing

Pricing is the third big factor in rating eSIMs and it’s definitely one of Roamify’s biggest advantages.

Roamify often ranks as the cheapest and best value offerings in various countries tested. Here’s the latest Roamify prices, updated daily. Remember to filter by the country you’re heading to if you’d prefer.

You can pick from many countries around the world and Roamify will have one of the cheapest prices available on the eSIM market. Many eSIM providers will be competitive only at certain data points, but Roamify tends to undercut the market across many data levels too.

We purchased Roamify roam credits upon first use and, even after purchasing plans and testing in 14 Countries, have barely dented it.

Roamify Pricing Vs Other eSIMs

General prices are useful, but useless without comparison against the market. Let’s break down and compare how that actually looks by comparing Roamify’s prices vs major competition across a number of countries and data points. Note that prices below are live and based off our price comparison pages, so rankings may change.

These sorts of low prices that rank as the 1st or 2nd cheapest continue in many markets around the world, but especially in popular tourist destinations around North America, Europe, Asia and more. You’ll regularly see Roamify as one of the cheapest eSIM providers quoted on our comparisons pages, such as the cheapest short stay option in France on our France eSIM price comparison.

That being said, there are locations where Roamify doesn’t always compete and, from what we’ve seen, that can include countries in Latin America, but of course not all of them. You’ll see below that Mexico is on the more expensive side, while Brazil offers great pricing.

One other observation we made? If you are heading overseas for a very short amount of time and only require 1 GB of data, Roamify isn’t usually the very cheapest, BNESIM tends to be a little cheaper.

Is Roamify Good Value?

So as we’ve covered, Roamify consistently ranks as one of the cheapest eSIM providers across most countries we’ve tested often placing 1st or 2nd in our comparisons. Pair that with the strongest customer support experience we’ve had from an eSIM provider and a wide range of plan options and we think that makes Roamify a fantastic value offering that is more than worth the low price you’ll pay.

For us, in terms of value, the only other provider right now that comes close is GoMoWorld which offers similarly low priced (if usually a little more expensive) plans while offering even faster speeds in many instances.

While we think Roamify is a great option for most types of travelers, those looking for low pricing and high value plans will be most pleased.

How Much Data Will I Need?

Getting the amount of data you actually need right is essential to get the best value from any eSIM provider, including Roamify.

While overall cost increases with the more data you purchase, the price per GB of eSIM plans generally decreases substantially with the more data that you purchase. That incentivizes you to purchase more data to get the lower price per GB. However, if you purchase a high data plan and don’t use that data, your effective price per GB increases again.

Getting the right amount of data is complicated, there’s no doubt about it. Though there can be unwelcome surprises, generally with experience, you’ll get to know how much data you need for different types of trips.

Roamify offers a mix of low data plans, medium data plans and high data plans, sometimes up to an absurd 1 TB of data as well as their unlimited data offering, perfect for those working abroad via a phone hotspot connection.

The nice thing about Roamify’s support is that live chat is very quick and doesn’t involve any form of AI or bots, it’s an actual live chat conversation, which is a rarity these days. We’ve spoken with Roamify’s support from all corners of the world and still had quick responses, we’re really not sure if/when they sleep.

That’s great, but what’s their actual support like? We’re happy to say it’s fantastic, the best we’ve tested in our Best eSIM Customer Support study.

In our structured testing, we connected to a human agent via Roamify’s in app live chat within seconds of opening a ticket. Adrian had both our questions answered accurately and completely in under 6 minutes, with no bots, no back and forth and no need to follow up again. For an industry where support can be patchy or completely absent, that kind of customer support really does stand out from the crowd.

Who and what’s Roamify for?

So we’ve used Roamify quite a bit while traveling, but in what circumstances does it make most sense to go for Roamify over other eSIMs?

Value seekers:

This one covers a wide audience, who doesn’t appreciate value for money? In our experience, Roamify does offer great bang for your buck. Prices are among the lowest in the market and performance is solid in terms of both speeds and signal – that’s our 3 top performance factors, but the app, customer support and more also score high.

Plan flexibility and higher data requirements

Roamify has multiple different plan options which, for those that know their data requirements, make it super convenient to get the right plan and the best price.

For those that need a lot of data, Roamify offers up super high data options, all the way up to 1 TB in some countries and unlimited data plans. All at affordable prices too.

Finally, there are calls and SMS options available in many countries, which really means that you have multiple connectivity options.

Travelers to basically anywhere (Caution in parts of Latin America)

Prices for Roamify are generally among the very cheapest in a lot of countries, which is great. Where that’s not the case is South America, prices are generally a little more expensive and less competitive in some countries.

Pair that with the experience we had in Colombia where the eSIM didn’t work and we would definitely recommend caution when purchasing to South America.
