It’s fair to say that the travel eSIM market is growing at a rapid pace. Every week we’re contacted by new travel eSIM providers asking us to test their products and, if we’re being honest, there’s not always much to choose between them and any other on the market. GoMoWorld is a little bit different. Though GoMoWorld is seemingly not the most well known eSIM in the market as of yet, it’s managed to separate itself from the pack with its cheap prices.

However, cheap prices can only get you so far, in this GoMoWorld review we’ll dig into how it actually performs in real life. Is it fast? Is the signal strength good? How is the overall app experience? Answering these questions will tell us if the cheap prices really make for good value and whether GoMoWorld is worth it.

What is GoMoWorld?

GoMoWorld is a relatively fresh face in the travel eSIM market, having made its debut back in October 2022. While it may be newer to the scene, this service comes with some serious telecom backing that’s worth noting.

Developed by eir Ireland, GoMoWorld is part of Xavier Niel’s telecom group – a name that might not ring a bell for everyone, but carries significant weight in the industry. This group also includes players like Monaco Telecom and Salt Mobile SA. From first glance, GoMoWorld is built on a foundation of extensive telecom experience, despite its youth.

What is an eSIM?

GoMoWorld is one of an ever-increasing number of apps that offers flexible eSIM cell plans which you purchase and download straight from the app. First off, let’s step back and explain a little more about eSIMs, the technology at the heart of GoMoWorld’s service.

Is my phone compatible with GoMoWorld?

There are a few key requirements that your phone will have to meet in order to use GoMoWorld and get started with their plans.

1. App store access: First things first, you’ll need to be able to download the GoMoWorld app. That means access to the App Store if you’re an Apple fan, or Google Play for the Android crowd.

2. eSIM compatibility: This is the key requirement. Your phone needs to support eSIM technology. Don’t panic though – if you’ve bought a mid-range or high-end phone in the last few years, you’re probably good to go.

3. Dual SIM capability: While not absolutely essential, having a dual SIM phone (which most eSIM-compatible phones are) will make your life a lot easier. You can keep your home number active for calls and texts and use GoMoWorld for data. Best of both worlds.

4. Unlocked status: Your phone needs to be unlocked to be able to use it with foreign networks. If you’re not sure, check with your current carrier.

Here’s the good news: If you’ve got a phone made in the last 5 years or so by one of the big brands like Apple, Samsung, or Google, chances are you’re all set.

Is GoMoWorld easy to install? The setup process

Thankfully GoMoWorld is very easy to install, but you’ll want to be aware of a few things. Here’s our complete guide to installing GoMoWorld, alongside all of the options you’ll have:

Note: GoMoWorld is one of those travel eSIM providers that only makes you install the eSIM profile once, from then on all GoMoWorld country plans will work from that single profile. After years of installing and deleting multiple eSIMs, we are now big fans of this setup.

What is the GoMoWorld app like to use?

GoMoWorld’s app definitely stands out to us. The colors are vibrant and the interface is fun and interactive. As soon as you enter the app, you feel like you’ve been launched into space. There’s animations of planets, stars moving around the galaxy in a Star Wars closing credits sort of way and more. Mesmerizing.

Once you’re done stargazing, you’ll see your current plan (if you have one) right in the middle of the screen, showing the remaining data and days left. At the top, you’ll see the name of your plan and a label indicating if your eSIM has been installed. Tapping on it opens another tab with a summary of your plans, showing the remaining data and days for each plan, their status (active or expired) and the option to renew your plans.

Right below your current or expired plan, the app will always show your current country and the cheapest data option available. Essentially it’s a quick way to purchase a new plan for your current location, somewhat handy.

At the bottom of the screen, there’s a “Roaming Plans” section. Tap on it and you’ll find a list of top destinations. You can search for your desired destination by typing it into the search bar at the top or by scrolling down past the top destinations to tap on the “Search 197 Destinations” banner, which takes you to a full list of roaming plans. One of the things we appreciate here is that the app will tell you if you’ll be able to get 4G or 5G signal, though we’d also like to be able to see what networks we could access.

Another thing we like is that the app shows you if they’re running special promotions or deals on any of their available destinations. We think this feature is cool as it helps you to stay updated on the latest offers and ensures you get the best value for your money.

The slight problem is, each of these sections doesn’t feel the most intuitive because it’s not always clear where to go or how to find this information. It wasn’t until we thoroughly explored the app that we fully understood where to find the information we’re looking for. We do feel that GoMoWorld could simplify the app somewhat to make it clearer and more obvious for users.

Another slight nitpick is that it’s also hard to find the European regional plan as it’s not separated in the destination list. This could make it easy to miss if you’re not specifically looking for it.

Like pretty much every travel eSIM app, payment on GoMoWorld is quick and simple. You have credit cards or Apple/Google Pay to choose from.

One thing that the app is missing is a loyalty program. If you know us at all, you know we love loyalty programs so it’s a shame that GoMoWorld isn’t currently offering one. Fingers crossed that this changes in the future, so we can save even more on our future purchases.

In summary, if you don’t mind spending a minute or two getting to know the app and its quirks, GoMoWorld offers up a capable and visually intriguing platform for getting your travel eSIMs. It will be interesting to see how the app develops and evolves.

What countries can you use GoMoWorld in?

At the time of writing, GoMoWorld is available in “197 destinations”. Our guess is that this breaks down to 162 countries + 1 European regional SIM plan. GoMoWorld won’t win any awards for the most destinations offered, but with eSIMs for 162 countries everywhere from Afghanistan to Vietnam, you’ll probably find a plan for your next trip.

GoMoWorld is currently offering 1 regional plan, which is in Europe. If you’re looking for a regional or global plan from anywhere else, you’re out of luck. For some this is a disadvantage, but we would always strongly suggest that you purchase a different plan for every country you head to anyway, as pricing is usually much better than a regional plan.

What plans does GoMoWorld offer and how much does GoMoWorld cost?

Before we compare GoMoWorld with other eSIM providers, let’s dig into the main considerations when purchasing an eSIM for travel. They are…

1. Location.
2. Validity.
3. Data amount.

1. Location

You’ll need to consider whether you want a single country plan or a regional plan. GoMoWorld’s only regional plan is in Europe and is actually still great value if you really don’t want to worry about buying individual country plans.

2. Validity

GoMoWorld tends to offer a low data, medium data and high data plan for most countries and nothing more.

• Low data: 7 days
• Mid data: 15 days
• High data: 30 days

Let’s look at the UK as an example:

This is something we’d call out about GoMoWorld plans that does differ from most other eSIM providers.

Additionally…

• Most eSIM providers will offer you 30 days validity for plans of 3 GB or over. If you are staying longer than 7 days, ensure that you choose a GoMoWorld plan that covers your entire trip or consider purchasing more than once.

• There aren’t a huge number of different data options. Most travel eSIMs will offer you far more data increments to choose from.

3. Data amount 

GoMoWorld tends to keep things simple and doesn’t offer too many different plans to choose from unlike most others, though data amounts tend to be quite generous. As is often the case, your price per GB is going to reduce quite significantly the more data you purchase.

Sticking with the UK, let’s take a look at the price per GB difference at different data levels:

GoMoWorld are incentivizing larger data purchases, with the price per GB dropping by 65% from their smallest to largest plan.

Digging into the UK costs, the 4 GB plan is an attractively priced plan, but at €1 per GB, it’s actually their least cost-effective option.

Their mid-tier 15 GB plan offers a decent balance. The price per GB drops to €0.73, and you get a full 15 days of validity. This could be a sweet spot for many travelers on a two-week trip who need a bit more data flexibility.

The real top value can be found in their higher data plans. The 50 GB and 85 GB plans offer a cost per GB that is significantly less than the equivalent cost of the 4 G plan. Plus, with a 30-day validity, they’re perfect for longer trips or heavy data users.

However, there’s one major thing to factor in when considering price per GB, it assumes you’ll use most of your data. If you go for the 50 GB plan but only use 10GB, your effective cost shoots up to about €2 per GB. Suddenly, that great deal isn’t looking so hot.

On the flip side, if you lowball your needs with the 4 GB plan and run out after a few days, you’re stuck buying another package at higher, but still competitively priced rates.

So what’s the takeaway? GoMoWorld’s pricing rewards high data users who can accurately estimate their needs. If you’re a heavy user or on a longer trip, that 50 GB plan could be a steal, but for shorter trips or lighter users, you might be better off with the 15 GB plan to avoid overpaying for data you won’t use.

For us, it’s always better to have a little extra data than to run out mid-trip.

Having an idea of roughly how much data you’ll need is particularly useful to help you get the best bang for your buck. However, this is never an exact science as data needs vary massively from person to person.

Is GoMoWorld high speed and what is GoMoWorld’s signal reception like?

We have been impressed with GoMoWorld in every country that we’ve personally tested it in so far, and that’s a lot. Both speeds and signal have been good or great, with some of the fastest speeds we’ve seen in the UK and UAE and strong signal with a choice of networks throughout.

It’s worth remembering however, speeds and signal can be impacted by a number of factors, they are:

1. 4G or 5G plan: In theory 5G plans should be faster than 4G plans and can offer better signal too. GoMoWorld’s plans are both 4G and 5G, with the app highlighting what you’ll get prior to purchasing.

2. Location: Location will always be a big factor in determining signal strength and alongside it, speed.

3. Other variables: Such as network congestion, which can also vary depending on time of day.

We recently ran an in-depth speed test study, comparing over 20 eSIMs around the world for our Fastest eSIM for travel. GoMoWorld’s speeds actually came 3rd out of all providers and fastest in Portugal, earning our two awards:

Here’s the breakdown of our time using GoMoWorld around the world…

The Good:

• Speed: Very Fast.
• Signal: Very good 5G signal in and out of the city thanks to their partnership with EE. One interesting thing we noted after testing many eSIMs in the exact same place on the exact same network is that GoMoWorld managed to keep 5G signal where quite a few others couldn’t.

• Speed: Decent.
• Signal: Signal in Colombia is generally solid inside and outside of the cities, though like all networks, is only 4G and struggles in some of the more remote areas.

• Speed: Fast.
• Signal: Great 5G performance from both Nos and Vodafone inside and outside of the cities. We never fail to get great signal in Portugal and GoMoWorld is no exception.

• Speed: Incredible, ridiculous, amazing. 557 Mbps!
• Signal: Great 5G signal from Du all around the country.

• Speed: The fastest amongst all eSIMs we tested.
• Signal: Only 4G signal but it was bulletproof across all of the islands we visited.

• Speed: 263 Mbps: Both quick and amongst the top tier of eSIMs tested
• Signal: Good signal on T-Mobile 4G. We would have liked to see more networks available, with 5G.

• Speed: The 3rd fastest we tested at just under 100 Mbps. Unfortunately not super quick, but still fully functional.
• Signal: Decent signal throughout Bali and surrounding islands. Not immune to losing signal in remote areas however, like all of the eSIM providers and networks.

The Average:

• Speed: Average.
• Signal: Good. We were able to keep 4G signal in the various cities and when we were driving in the more remote areas too.

• Signal: Average. We found the My Maxis network in Malaysia to be just okay. All eSIMs we tested use it.

Does GoMoWorld have a loyalty scheme?

What is GoMoWorld’s customer service like?

When you’re dealing with tech, especially while traveling, hiccups are common. We feel the real test of an eSIM provider isn’t in avoiding problems altogether, it’s in how they handle them when they crop up. So, how does GoMoWorld measure up when the going gets tough? We’ve put their customer service to the test and here’s what we found:

• Forms of communication: GoMoWorld’s customer support is based on a ticketing system. While this is functional and does work for some queries, we have to say that we’re a bit disappointed by the lack of live chat. Sometimes you just need answers ASAP, especially when traveling.

• Response time: Unfortunately GoMoWorld’s response time leaves a bit to be desired. We recently asked a couple of simple questions to test this and ended up waiting 5+ hours for a response. Again, when traveling you really do want to have as fast a response as possible.

• Answers and problem solving: Fortunately we’ve not run into any major issues on GoMoWorld the way we have with some other eSIM providers. This means that we’ve not been able to ask the most challenging of questions. Our recent queries have been very simple to answer, but were answered thoroughly and effectively.

Overall, we’d have to say that GoMoWorld’s customer support has room for improvement. The reliance on a ticketing system without a live chat option feels like a miss in the eSIM world and those response times? They need to improve, especially for a service aimed at travelers who might need quick solutions.
