Our quick take on ETravelSim

Let’s start with the positives:

In our tests, ETravelSim worked across every country where we used it. We were able to get online, use maps, browse, message and do normal travel stuff without any major issues. So yes, it’s definitely reliable.

We also got some strong speed results, especially in Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. That’s useful if you want to do things like video calls, stream Netflix, upload photos or post videos while traveling.

Now for the less positive part:

ETravelSim wasn’t perfect everywhere. Thailand and Macau were weaker for speeds and we have to admit that the app isn’t our favorite.

Also, if you’re after loads of extras or standout features, this brand is probably not for you. ETravelSim offers a very straightforward service. You mostly get data, plus calls in some plans and that’s about it.

However, from our experience, ETravelSim is a solid and practical option if you mainly need data that works. For that, we’re happy to recommend it.

What has ETravelSim been like in our tests?

In short, ETravelSim has been reliable.

It hasn’t been the fastest eSIM provider in every country, but we’ve always been able to install, activate and use it everywhere we’ve tested it.

For normal travel use, that counts more than having the highest possible speed test number. When you land in a new country, you want your eSIM to connect, stay online and let you do what you need to do, especially if customer support isn’t good and you can’t fix the issue straight away.

Is ETravelSim easy to install?

Yes, ETravelSim is easy to install. You buy your plan, follow the setup instructions and install the eSIM on your phone. The whole thing should take less than 5 minutes.

If you’ve used a travel eSIM before, the process will feel very familiar. If this is your first time using eSIMs, ETravelSim is still easy enough. Just install it before you urgently need data, so you’re not trying to figure it out at the airport with no connection.

What we like about ETravelSim

From our experience, the best thing about ETravelSim is that it works. It has been dependable for us across the countries where we’ve tested it so far.

That might sound basic, but with travel eSIMs, that’s the whole point. Especially if your trip is short and you don’t have time to mess around trying to fix connection issues.

We also like that the plans are easy to understand. You can usually choose between regular data, unlimited data and in some destinations, data with calls. That makes ETravelSim a good option if you already know what you need and don’t want to spend ages comparing complicated plans.

The same applies if this is your first time using eSIMs, because the service is simple and the plan structure isn’t confusing.

What we don’t love about ETravelSim

There are 2 things we think ETravelSim could improve.

1. The app

The app is probably our least favorite part of ETravelSim.

Generally speaking, it does the job. You can buy your plan, install your eSIM and manage the basics, but it doesn’t feel as smooth as some of the other eSIM apps we’ve tested.

For example, we’ve never been able to log in with our Gmail accounts. The option is there, but it hasn’t worked for us.

The app also logs you out from time to time, which means you have to keep signing back in. That’s not a disaster, but it does get annoying when you’re traveling and just want to check your plan quickly.

Sometimes the app can feel a bit slow too. You may notice the loading screen more than you’d like.

None of this stopped us from using ETravelSim properly, but the app experience could definitely be better.

2. Customer support

Customer support is another area where ETravelSim hasn’t impressed us so far.

We’ve contacted them a couple of times as part of our tests, but the experience hasn’t been strong enough for us to call it a positive.

With travel eSIMs, support is important. If something goes wrong, you usually need help quickly, especially if you need your eSIM working from the moment you land so you can book an Uber, find your hotel or message someone.

We still want to test ETravelSim’s customer support more properly before saying too much. We’ll look at this in more detail when we publish our full ETravelSim review.

Who should use ETravelSim?

ETravelSim is a good fit if you want a straightforward travel eSIM that focuses on the basics.

We’d consider it if you want reliable mobile data while traveling, already know roughly how much data you need, prefer simple plan options, want the option of data and calls, need unlimited data or are visiting somewhere where eSIMs can be unreliable.

When would we choose another eSIM instead?

If you want the absolute cheapest eSIM, compare prices by destination first. ETravelSim isn’t expensive and in some countries it can be among the cheaper options, but we’d usually place it more in the middle of the market.

If you want extra features, another provider may suit you better:

• For security features or VPN style extras, Saily may be a better fit.
• For travel perks, Jetpac may be worth comparing.
• For a single global eSIM that works across multiple countries without buying separate plans each time, Roamless may make more sense.

That said, if your priority is reliable data and a simple buying process, ETravelSim is a strong option.

Is ETravelSim worth using?

Definitely.

If you’re considering ETravelSim for your trip, we’d say go for it. They’re legit, they have good coverage around the world, they offer a decent variety of plans and like we’ve said several times in this article, the service has been reliable in our tests.
